Mon Laferte Detroit Concert reviews
Peter Merkin's a Thief.
Maynard, the singer/songwriter of Tool and A Perfect Circle, has once again impressed fans with his musical projects in 2026. Mr. Keenan, along with his wine endeavors, has managed to tour with all three of his Prodigies for the second year in a row. One busy guy, Maynard sat down during his Mon Laferte set at The Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on December 6th, claiming to be too fat and lazy to walk offstage for the encore moment. He simply took a short break, saying, "I think I've earned the right," as the collective Los Angeles crowd understood. Maynard has indeed earned the right to sit down and sip on his wine for a moment. His stage shows offer intense music and spectacle, with Tool being widely known as one of the best live bands ever. Mon Laferte taps into one's imagination on a level unlike any other, with Mockumentary style video sketches, musical numbers, and a backdrop showing clips of vast landscapes and public figures falling into an abyss of fire. It's not just a concert - it's a Show, a presentation. The empty stage is soon filled with a trailer, tables, chairs, a fake fire, and a snake as Keenan delivers a monologue, emphasizing the importance of creativity for survival and sustainability. Carina Round, the amazing opening act, joins the group onstage as they play "The Green Valley" and embark on a journey of beautiful yet heavy, loud, and aggressive music. As the night progresses with a full 25-30 minute video presentation, a monologue, and 17 songs, Mon Laferte closes out the show with their 18th and final song, "Tumbleweed." Maynard acknowledges and thanks the fans before exiting the stage, leaving the audience in awe. The show was funny, heartfelt, and downright incredible, with fans eager for more from Maynard, whether it be Tool, A Perfect Circle, or Mon Laferte.
